HEBO
Sustainable Ships embarked us on a journey to uncover which sustainability measures would deliver the biggest bang for our buck. Through this process, we gained invaluable insights into the key factors driving the decarbonization of our fleet. It was an educational experience, helping us to make a strategy and on what to focus in the future. The journey went beyond the nitty-gritty technical details - like operational profiles or engine usage. We also focused on the cost-effectiveness of different decarbonization measures to make sure the measures make sense for our ships. Looking back, we are grateful for the guidance in navigating the complex landscape of sustainability.

Forsa
Sustainable ships helped us to navigate in complicated decarbonization landscape. We looked into requirements of ETS, MRV, IMO, FuelEU, EEXI. We explored the topics with Vincent at various angles and discussed possible solutions. Both technological retrofits and rules compliance. The learning process was fast and as a result we have much better understanding about decarbonization challenges and solutions.

Project BOEI
Sustainable Ships performed a techno-economic feasibility study for the Province of South-Holland and InnovationQuarter on offshore charging of tankers at the anchorage at Scheveningen. We made a purpose-build tool for interactive parametric design to create insights for decision-making. The study determined that offshore charging of tankers is technically and economically feasible, but requires ‘first movers’ amongst shipowners.
Van Oord
“Sustainable Ships is a great initiative and start up; all employees are fully dedicated to help the Maritime Sector to decarbonize! The overall approach helps a larger company as Van Oord to differentiate in depth on the decarbonisation options provided in the overview. The background knowledge at Van Oord, on its turn, helps Sustainable Ships to further professionalize with respect to qualitative answering. It was really nice to cooperate with the Sustainable Ships’ team.”
Martin de Geus - Team Lead Equipment Van Oord
Port of Rotterdam
“Vincent has helped us understanding the challenges, considerations and cost impacts of getting an existing vessel ready for receiving shore power. The Sustainable Ships tools and report provide insight and work intuitively. We believe ship owners could definitely use the expertise that Sustainable Ships has to offer.”
Ryan Cornelisse - Business Manager Shore Power
Damen
“Sustainable Ships did a great job! They performed an exploratory study on rules and regulations for several of our focus regions and a selection of our vessels and technologies. This gives us great insights on what is important for our customers. For example, we now understand better what the impact of EU ETS will be for our clients and what we internally need to organize. The report and the help Sustainable Ships provided during the process will help us to determine which actions we should take in order to be prepared for the future.”
Matthijs Richelle - Service Development Manager
Steenstra Shipping
Sustainable Ships provided Steenstra Shipping a Decarbonizer report, a customized roadmap for carbon reduction measures on board. We helped them with interpreting upcoming rules and regulations such as EEXI, determine approximate costs for carbon reduction measures like shore power, and had a look at using the existing economizer for alternative purposes. They will use the roadmap as a basis for long-term decision-making with regards to sustainability.
Hydrogen Powered Propulsion for an Offshore Crane Vessel
This thesis performs a technical, economical and environmental feasibility study of three dense hydrogen carriers as a fuel to power the largest semi-submersible offshore crane vessel in the world – Heerema’s Sleipnir.
Heerema Carbon Neutral
One of our crew members was a key driver in Heerema’s ambitious decision to make the company Carbon Neutral, compensating 250.000 [mT] of CO2 per year.
Shore Power Calandkanaal
One of our crew members realized the largest shore power connection in Rotterdam - 20MW - from inception, to design, up to project management and execution.
