Ten08 Energy
Sustainable Ships developed an ammonia comparison model in a matter of weeks to showcase the business case of Ammonia vs. LNG to potential shipowners. Both an Excel model as well as an interactive webtool were made. This tool supports Ten08's plan to build ammonia production infrastructure in the US and help shipowners to decarbonize and comply in the most cost-effective manner with regulations such as FuelEU and EU ETS.
HEBO
Sustainable Ships assisted HEBO gain crucial insights into the cost-effectiveness of different decarbonization measures, in particular battery hybrid solutions and the use of alternative fuels. The project went beyond technical details like engine usage and operational profiles, but also involved close cooperation to develop a tailored strategy to comply with regulatory standards.
Forsa
Sustainable Ships assisted Forsa with the exploration of multiple decarbonization pathways, in particular with respect to hybridization of a general cargo vessel and the use of biofuels. Additionally a detailed scenario planning for long-term decision making was made, that allowed the shipowner to quickly compare the costs of newbuild vs. refits with respect to several OPEX parameters including regulatory compliance.
Project BOEI
Sustainable Ships performed a techno-economic feasibility study for the Province of South-Holland and InnovationQuarter on offshore charging of tankers at the anchorage at Scheveningen. As part of the job, a purpose-build tool for interactive parametric design to create insights for decision-making. The study determined that offshore charging of tankers is technically and economically feasible.
Van Oord
Sustainable Ships provided Van Oord with support on building their own Decarbonizer tool, to be used for scenario planning and long-term decision making with regards to sustainability. The services provided included weekly support on decarbonization methods, technologies and implementation on board two vessels of Van Oord.
Port of Rotterdam
Sustainable Ships provided Port of Rotterdam with a detailed Shore Power report, a customized techno-economic feasibility study that estimates costs and provides an overview of the technical challenges, standards and retrofit options required to accomodate shore power on board a vessel. The report is used to help shipowners gain quick insights into the conversion for shore power, including estimated cost and technical requirements for conversion.
Damen
Sustainable Ships provided Damen Shipyards with a customized report that provides an overview of upcoming rules and regulations with regards to sustainability. The project focused on interpreting rules such as EEXI and CII, calculate costs for EU ETS, and investigated beyond regulatory bodies into energy majors’ ambitions, ports and shipping companies. The report is used as a basis for long-term decision-making with regards to sustainability tailored to Damen’s portfolio.
Steenstra Shipping
Sustainable Ships provided Steenstra Shipping with a Decarbonizer report, a customized roadmap for carbon reduction measures on board the Douwe-S. Sustainable Ships assisted with interpreting upcoming rules and regulations such as EEXI, determine approximate costs for carbon reduction measures like shore power, and had a look at using the existing economizer installed on board for alternative purposes. Steenstra Shipping will use the roadmap as a basis for long-term decision-making with regards to sustainability.
Hydrogen Powered Propulsion for an Offshore Crane Vessel
This thesis performs a technical, economical and environmental feasibility study of three dense hydrogen carriers as a fuel to power the largest semi-submersible offshore crane vessel in the world – Heerema’s Sleipnir.
Heerema Carbon Neutral
One of our crew members was a key driver in Heerema’s ambitious decision to make the company Carbon Neutral, compensating 250.000 [mT] of CO2 per year.
Shore Power Calandkanaal
One of our crew members realized the largest shore power connection in Rotterdam - 20MW - from inception, to design, up to project management and execution.
